HELLO WOOD’s Cabin Fever 2025 was an international summer school and festival held from 23–31 July in Česká Kamenice, Czech Republic, on the grounds of a former textile factory and wartime labour camp. The site’s complex history and potential for renewal provided a powerful context for the theme “Quality Time – Connection to Each Other”. The programme used architecture as both an educational tool and a catalyst for social impact. Through an intensive design-build format, students and emerging designers from around the world worked alongside international studios to learn by making, transforming ideas into inhabitable structures while engaging with questions of memory, community, and place. Supported by VELUX, the 2025 edition explored how light, space, and atmosphere can shape human experience and create conditions for presence, intimacy, and meaningful connection. The resulting cabins and temporary installations were not only architectural objects, but shared spaces for dialogue, reflection, and collective learning. By activating a historically charged and overlooked site, Cabin Fever became a platform for cultural exchange, community engagement, and renewal. It demonstrated how hands-on architectural education can move beyond the classroom, connecting people through shared making while generating lasting social value for both participants and the local context.
