Perched on a forested hilltop near the Buffalo National River, Eclipse Ridge is a weekend retreat for a couple seeking a quiet connection to nature, family, and place. The design responds to the rugged Ozark landscape, shaping spaces for both solitude and shared experience while minimizing disturbance to the site. Inspired by regional agrarian forms, a folded corten steel roof rests on a cast-in-place concrete base, establishing a grounded architectural identity rooted in local vernacular. The roof responds to topography, solar orientation, and framed views, anchoring the cabin within its landscape. A restrained material palette pairs weathering steel with dark-stained cedar, while maple and pine interiors create a warm, continuous environment where shifting daylight animates the forest experience. The compact program includes two bedrooms, two baths, a kitchen, and an open living space organized along a central circulation spine that separates public and private zones. A loft provides flexible space for reading and rest, while a screened catwalk leads to a secluded Crow’s Nest overlooking the trees. Eclipse Ridge is an architecture of restraint and intention. Rather than imposing on the hilltop, it frames daily life through light, views, and material presence, offering a quiet refuge that encourages both connection and stillness.
