The park-like property of the day-care center is characterized by lush old trees. The division of the building mass and the staggered arrangement of its parts allow the preservation of the existing trees and a strong interlocking of the building with the greenery. Deep incisions in the cubature strengthen the connection between interior and exterior space, large window areas provide attractive views of the treetops. The entrance hall is the heart of the building and a meeting place for young and old. A double height void eliminates the separation between the storeys and opens up the space upwards. Light enters the hall via a large skylight. The floor plan clearly separates the group area and the personnel area. The result is good clarity and easy orientation. The identical design of the six group areas enables flexible use for different age groups. All group rooms face south and are directly connected to the garden. As a hybrid construction, the building combines the advantages of solid construction with those of timber construction. The reduced material concept is based on the use of few natural and robust materials with a natural finish. The design-defining material wood refers to the location in the park. Local larch wood was used for the façade. The efficiency building has a sustainable energy concept including a photovoltaic system and a heat pump and does not use fossil fuels.
