KItoNOKO is the Hiroshima branch office of the Nikko Home Group, a company specializing in housing, renovation, real estate, and land development in Hiroshima, Japan. Rather than designing a conventional office, the project reimagines the workplace as a home for the community—a welcoming place where former clients can return casually, prospective homeowners can begin conversations about living, and local residents can join cultural and community activities. A generous timber atrium forms the heart of the building. Meeting and consultation spaces surround the hall, allowing daily business activities to coexist with concerts, markets, workshops, and other public events. Employees' offices are located separately, providing privacy while keeping the shared spaces open to visitors. Drawing on the scale and atmosphere of Japanese residential architecture, the exposed timber structure, natural light, and carefully framed views create a calm and welcoming environment. A 45-degree rotation of the structural grid opens the building toward the surrounding streets, while landscaped edges soften the industrial waterfront setting. More than a corporate branch office, KItoNOKO demonstrates how architecture can strengthen lasting relationships between a company and its community by creating a place people naturally want to return to.
