La Nave is a future-oriented school on the edge of Buchs, where the openness of the landscape, the horizon and the mountains become part of everyday education. Designed as a timber building, it uses wood as both material and principle. Its warm, tactile atmosphere reflects care, sustainability and a close connection to nature. The school is organised as a vertical journey: the youngest children start on the lower level, while older pupils move gradually upward. A central seating stair forms the architectural and social backbone, connecting all levels, creating places for exchange and leading to the roof as an outdoor classroom. Open learning areas, retreat niches and shared spaces support focused work, group activities and informal encounters. The assembly hall, school kitchen and “Brütwerk” workshop extend the school into gathering, making and experimentation. A slide between the upper levels adds movement and playfulness. The timber façade, with varied shingles and freely shaped windows, expresses diversity, individuality and the uniqueness of every child. La Nave shows how timber construction, architecture and pedagogy can create a school for wellbeing, curiosity and community.
