The Midea Science Center is located within the Midea headquarters campus in Foshan, directly facing Tadao Ando’s He Art Museum. It serves scientific exhibition and national science awards, positioned between corporate identity, public culture, and technological innovation. The design responds to this adjacency through calibrated contrast rather than imitation, structured on the opposition of square and circle: the museum expresses circular geometry and controlled light, while the Science Center adopts a square courtyard and dynamic light system. The building is composed of stacked half-cube volumes, forming a clear order. A column-free atrium creates an open field for exhibitions and civic events. Light, water, and atmosphere are integrated through overhead systems, motorized louvers, and a sunken water courtyard forming a microclimatic landscape. White artificial stone and ultra-clear glass define a restrained material palette. BIM coordination and prefabrication ensure precision and efficiency. An 8-ton robotic arm with a display introduces kinetic media, shifting exhibition to interactive interface. Sustainability strategies include evaporative cooling, daylight control, and a long-life column-free structure. The project functions as a civic platform for scientific dissemination, where technology becomes cultural experience.
