Moodvironment: An AI-Driven Computationally Fabricated Responsive Environment for Collective Emotional Awareness in Public Spaces
Silver Prize in Design for Impact
Moodvironment is an emotive intelligent and interactive installation that uses architecture as a medium to foster collective emotional awareness and social engagement. In contemporary cities, public spaces rarely provide mechanisms for expressing emotional conditions or reflecting on the shared experiences of communities. Positioned at the intersection of computational design, responsive architecture, and digital fabrication, it investigates how intelligent architectural systems can translate emotional states into collective spatial experiences while amplifying overlooked voices. Measuring 20’W x 22’ L x 11’ H, the installation consists of five independent interactive zones that enable simultaneous participation through facial expression and vocal intonation analysis. Front-facing cameras and microphones through sensors and microcontrollers capture emotional cues, which are processed by a cloud-based AI and machine-learning framework performing facial recognition, vocal analysis, and emotion classification to dynamically control lighting and sound responses. The installation continuously shifts colors and musical tones in response to detected emotions, creating a feedback loop between emotional expression, spatial response, and human perception. Developed through parametric aggregation, precision manufacturing, digital nesting and fabrication Moodvironment demonstrates how AI-driven interaction can support responsive, adaptive, and emotionally intelligent public architecture
