The project converts a former call-centre office building in Málaga Technology Park into a university space. Located in an area dominated by commercial activity and with few places for public life, the intervention opens the ground floor to the city and softens the boundary between building and public space. Thus, the architecture responds to the university’s needs while acting as an urban catalyst. The online nature of the university adds a key challenge: the building must create identity and belonging without depending on daily physical presence. As many students visit only occasionally, the project seeks to generate attachment through spatial experience and references to Andalusian tradition. The proposal reinterprets two elements of local culture: the patio and esparto. The courtyard becomes the heart of the building, a place for informal learning, exhibitions and community life. Inspired by the Mediterranean patio, it brings in natural light, cross-ventilation and vegetation, turning the building into an indoor campus. Esparto, a Mediterranean fibre linked to craftsmanship and the Andalusian economy, is used as a solar filter. It regulates sunlight and gives the building an identity rooted in place. Together, patio and esparto transform the project into more than reuse. Architecture becomes a pedagogical tool, transmitting knowledge through material culture, reuse and local references, and understanding education as a shared and public experience.
