The 2024 Chengdu Horticultural Expo’s Xingcheng Exhibition Garden, located in Chengdu Eastern New Area, embodies green development and poetic dwelling. Inspired by Western Sichuan classical gardens, it inherits natural elegance and interprets the Shu people’s vision of “poetic dwelling.” The entrance is a grey-tile gate nestled in bamboo. The main pavilion, a “lotus leaf pavilion,” uses bamboo and lotus imagery—a giant curved roof like a lotus leaf, with bamboo veins. Traditional Sichuan features (sloping roofs, grey tiles, deep eaves) are artistically expressed. The hollow roof center collects rainwater into the lake, symbolizing talent gathering. Full glass walls blur boundaries; the floor is lowered 0.6m, offering seated pond views. Following “Park City, Beautiful Habitat,” the design uses recyclable steel, bamboo decoration, parametric curves, recycled straw bricks, and Huaiyuan rattan furniture (intangible heritage). With lotus and bamboo as core imagery, the garden serves both recreation and commemoration, telling a fresh Sichuan rural story and awakening a shared Chinese cultural sensibility.
