The Uzbekistan Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka reimagines the country's architectural heritage as a place for learning, dialogue, and discovery. Conceived as a „Garden of Knowledge“, it demonstrates how the built environment can bring people together, connect cultures, and inspire sustainable thinking. The two-level pavilion draws on the archetypal Uzbek landscape. A base of clay and reclaimed brick symbolizes the earth and the country's cultural roots, while an open wooden sculpture creates a place for gathering and exchange. Reinterpreting traditional temple architecture where colonnades shape spaces, the structure guides visitors from the country's rich past toward its future. Sustainability is integral to the design. Built almost entirely from locally sourced Japanese timber, clay, earth, and reclaimed bricks, the pavilion combines low-impact construction with traditional craftsmanship. Passive strategies, including clay's thermal properties, a shaded timber pergola, and an enclosed envelope that reduces solar heat gain, create a comfortable indoor climate with low energy demand. Built on the principles of the Expo legacy, the modular wooden sculpture was designed for disassembly and reuse. It is already being reconstructed in Nukus, Uzbekistan, as part of a children's library and cultural hub, where it continues to connect heritage, innovation, and sustainability while demonstrating how thoughtful design can create lasting social and educational value.
