Located in the heart of Fayetteville’s original city park, the Wilson Park Hub transforms a routine restroom replacement into a civic space that strengthens recreation, accessibility, and community life. Positioned between the northern parking lot and the tennis and pickleball courts, the project functions as both a circulation node and gathering space embedded in the landscape. Responding to site topography, ramps, stairs, and terraced seating create accessible connections between courts, creek, and trails. Elevated overlooks provide shaded areas for gathering and spectating while reinforcing visual continuity across the park. Existing circulation patterns inform paths, retaining walls, and seating, allowing movement and pause to emerge through shifts in elevation. A restrained material palette balances durability and warmth. A steel frame supports a stained pine soffit, while brick restroom volumes are anchored by natural stone retaining walls that step with the terrain. Steel guardrails and welded wire panels define circulation while maintaining open views. Public art is integrated through Wilson Park Wallscape by T.T. Smith, a backlit rusted metal installation on the north façade. Referencing the park’s State Champion Dawn Redwood and sculptural history, the work reinforces connection to place, reframing infrastructure as civic landscape where movement, gathering, and accessibility are woven into the park experience.
